Characterization of the forest Semideciduo Micrófilo of the South Costa of Maisí

Abstract

The research was carried out in the coastal area of the Caleta - Maisí Ecological Reserve, located in the Maisí municipality, Guantánamo province, in the period from September 2019 to May 2020, with the aim of characterizing the semi-deciduous microphilous forest. For this, 20 plots of 1000 m2 were raised, the floristic inventory was carried out through a simple random sampling, to cover the largest area of the land, rectangular plots of 20 mx 25 m (500 m2) were used, which were randomly distributed where The floristic species present in the different defined strata were counted, in addition the height (m) and diameter (cm) were measured for the species greater than one meter, the alpha and beta diversity, the diversity indices and the index of ecological importance; 18 species, 17 genera, 14 families and a total of 2 327 individuals were identified in the 20 plots; the best represented families were the Fabaceae, with the highest number of species, four, (28.57%), followed by the Apocynaceae with two (14.26%) and other six families with 7.14%. The most important species according to the Ecological Importance Value Index were L. latisiliquum, P. filifolia, B. simaruba, G. officinale and P. laurifolius are the most important species due to their dominance, abundance and frequency.
