Abstract
The research was conducted from February to November 2022 in the Maguana farm, belonging to the UBPC Roberto Blet Alpajon, located in the town of Maguana, Baracoa municipality, with the objective of determining the influence of coconut cultivation on the capture and storage of carbon as an ecosystem service. The state of the vegetation associated with the agroforestry system was characterized, the physical-chemical properties were evaluated and the carbon levels were estimated in relation to its ecosystemic contribution to determine the economic value of carbon storage. As a result of the systematic inventory carried out in the coconut tree FFS, a total of 789 trees were sampled, whose floristic composition is formed by 13 identified species, belonging to 10 botanical families. The intercropping arrangement presented more biomass than the monoculture. Statistically, it was determined that there were statistical differences between the arrangements (p ≤ 0.01), in the tree component the root accumulated 14.07% of the total biomass (19,188 t ha-1) and the woody components, stem and branches, 85.93% (116,627 ha-1). The aboveground biomass of the trees was 75,025 t/ha-1. The analysis showed an estimated carbon stored per hectare in the systems, valued at approximately 1849.35 (USD) per year.
