Abstract

Jatropha curcas L is a tropical plant and is currently used as a source of biodiesel. The cake, after oil extraction, is rich in protein and is a potential source of food for livestock; however, it is composed of a group of toxic substances, including esters of phorbol and other antinutrients. Due to its nutritional characteristics it could be used satisfactorily, in the feeding of monogastrics; by replacing much of the cereals that are used to make concentrates. The treatment of the residual cake of the Jatropha curcas by means of fermentation variants, could be the most viable form for its use, while eliminating the risks of contamination with positive environmental and economic impact. Due to the above, a study was carried out on the Jatropha curcas plant as well as a possible method for its detoxification, with a view to its use in animal feed
